Mother's Day Gifts for Gardeners

If you are looking for ideas for the mother in your life who loves to garden, or if you are that mother and would like to send a hint to your loved ones, this post has what I think are great mother's day gifts.

The one item I use most often when gardening is my Duluth Women's Heirloom Gardening Bib Overalls. I own two pair because they are so lightweight, comfortable, stretchy and utilitarian. To say they have a gazillion pockets would not be an exaggeration. These overalls periodically go on sale for a great deal, and come in different inseam lengths.

Seed company Gift cards are a great option if you aren't quite sure what she would love, but you know it's gardening related. My favorite seed company that has a diverse offering of both flowers and vegetables and seed garlic is Pinetree Garden Seeds. A giftcard to Pinetree is a great way to let the mother in your life pick out her own gift while still showing her you know she loves gardening. If you happen to know what seeds she wants, code FALLHOPEFUL15 will give you 15% off your order. (not valid on gift certificates and one time use)

If you know mom wants a specific plant, Great Garden Plants has an extensive selection. My family gets me a Peony every year for mothers day. It can make a wonderful tradition to get mom one of her favorite plants every year. I now have 12 peonies since we started this tradition. (and if you aren't sure what her favorite plant is, I encourage you to find out! and in the meantime you could grab a gift certificate)

One of my favorite small businesses is Modern Mini Homestead Ceramics which makes all kinds of fun garden pottery. I have her planters, spoons and mushroom ornaments. Check out the garden section of her website for some great unique gift ideas.

For a bird lover, a hummingbird feeder makes a lovely and entertaining addition to the garden. I have two feeders and get immense joy seeing the hummingbirds dart around the yard. I like to have one in the garden and one by the kitchen window. I prefer the glass feeders as I think they hold up better. Check out this video on how to make your own DIY humminbird food and I also recommend getting an ant moat to keep ants out of the feeder.

My favorite pruners are being offered in a limited-time peach color. These pruners are some of the best I have tried, and the peach color is so fun.

They also come in dark green and hot pink. (code 2025AMANDA will give you $10 off your purchase of $50 or more)

A Customized seed packet stamp from Etsy is a thoughtful gift especially if she likes to save her own seeds and share them with friends. I purchased a custom stamp similar to the one below years ago and use it all the time. I ordered from Cedar and Grey Paper Co.

The Hoselink retactable hose reel makes watering the garden so much more enjoyable, and it now comes in a 100 ft length in addition to the 82ft and 50ft lengths. I have three of these around my house and garden and we will never have a hose we have to coil up manually again.  (code 2025AMANDA will give you $10 off your purchase of $50 or more)

If the mom in your life struggles with keeping her raised beds irrigated, especially when on vacation, GrowOyas are a great option to keep those beds happy all summer long.

I use them in all my metal raised beds and they make going out of town in the summer possible without coming back to a fried and crispy garden.

If the mom in your life enjoys reading, I have several gardening related books I recommend.

If mom is interested in composting, I recommend The Compost Coach by Kate Flood. It is an all encompassing book on everything composting. This book will appeal to the novice composter as well as the seasoned composter.

If she loves flowers, all three books by Floret are fantastic.

If she loves understanding the science behind growing, the Teaming with Microbes book by Jeff Lowenfels is the best I've read to learn about soil science and the soil food web.

If she loves learning more about pollinators and beneficial bugs, 100 Plants to Feed the Monarch by The Xerces Society and Attracting Beneficial Bugs to Your Garden by Jessica Walliser are my favorites.

And of course I have to recommend my favorite all natural plant food. Kickass Frass feeds the microbes in your soil with the excrement from black soldier fly larvae which in turn feeds your plants. Doesn't have a repugnant odor like fish emulsion and a little goes a long way.

I hope these ideas are helpful. Drop a comment below if you have any questions.
